Day 84 - 100 days, 100 courses (Wednesday, June 5, 2019)

Has it really been 40+ years?! I keep doing the math in my head and except for 1 wedding that is how long since I’ve seen Frank.

When I started this adventure he immediately signed up. No questions, no drama.

We had a great time catching up.

Frank is a very good golfer who beat me by 9 strokes. I played Boggie ball with 2 pars and 2 doubles so I wasn’t too displeased. Only lost 1 ball and we managed to beat the rain.

The tees and greens were not as good as in past visits. The short game practice area is one of the best in northern Virginia

Would travel: 20-30 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Better than average course for the area, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

Played here 7-11-12 at 0830, and paid $65 as a senior, which is about $25 too much, considering the general state of golf these days, and the competitive climate. It is a nice course, has some interesting holes, but oh so many houses, with more abuilding (guess someone's economy is rebounding!). Course conditions were good, with very large greens that putted medium fast. Bunkers are plentiful, some are VERY deep, but all were in excellent shape, and very playable. Clubhouse is quite nicely done, but the pro shop staff seemed a little indifferent. Similarly, the on-course maintenance folks seemed pretty surly, and didn't even wave as they went by. I played well, and enjoyed the round, but can't recommend the course, simply because there are other "better" places fairly close more reasonably priced, and that make the player (and payer) feel more welcome.

I live close by and play Raspberry Falls primarily off-season. While it is a little expensive compared to comparable courses, I enjoy the layout. The practice facilities are good and I have found the staff to be friendly and helpful.

OK course. Good condition. WAY overpriced for the current market. Similar courses available locally for 50-75% of the price. Interesting layout. Challenging from the back tees. Some holes are scenic, while many play through the back yards of McMansions. Pro shop staff not very friendly.

Bottom line: Better courses for less nearby

I live about 20 minutes from Raspberry Falls and have played it many times. I worked last Saturday until about 1:30 and wanted to find a nearby course to get out on. I knew Raspberry was just down the road so I went there. The only thing I was worried about was if the course would be open since it was about 35 degrees out and very windy. It was open with a couple people playing according to the pro shop attendant.

I was extremely disappointed to have to pay $55 for the round though. It included the cart but come on, it was the end of January, Saturday at 2PM (not even a primetime hour), cold and windy as heck outside, and the twilight rate is $55. Way too much for my liking. I paid it but was not happy about it.

As a golf course, Raspberry Falls is straight forward golf. Bomb a driver every hole with wide open fairways and hope you do not hit your approach in one of the deep bunkers protecting the green. It is a cool little course but after playing it so much, it gets a little boring. There are many other courses in the area that have much better layouts and are not as expensive. If you have not played Raspberry though, I recommend doing so. It is an above average course.
